Papakura Music School is a community organisation offering instrumental tuition for primary and intermediate school children. Classes are held Saturday mornings from 8am till noon (click here for times) at Mansell Senior School, Settlement Rd. Papakura. They are designed to give students the opportunity to learn a musical instrument at very affordable rates. Classes commence at the beginning of the year with no further enrolments taken after the third lesson, unless the student has had tuition elsewhere on the instrument he/she wants to enrol for. Students starting tuition for the first time should learn either keyboard or recorder and be 6½ years of age. It is recommended that recorder students after one or two years progress onto a wind instrument. The Music for Little Kids class is aimed at children aged five to six years and is an introduction to the world of music. Tuition Fees Classes are funded jointly by the Ministry of Education and by parents contributions. Tuition fee is $80 per year. Keyboard students are charged an additional $40 for use of the keyboard lab at the school. Drum students are charged an additional $10 for the use of the drum kit. Recorder Ensemble, String Orchestra and Concert Band fees are $10 for students enrolled in any other instrumental class. All advanced students are expected to participate in one of these groups. Instrument Hire A limited number of Flutes, Clarinets, Trumpets, Violins and Cellos are available for hire to first (priority) and second year students at $80 per year. Saxophone hire is $160 per year. Instruments are usually hired for the first year of tuition only and must be returned at the end of the school year. Book Charges All keyboard, woodwind, brass and string students require a tuition book. All beginning students, except Recorder and Music for Little Kids, need to purchase a theory book as well. Students who use a music stand are required to bring their own. Quality music stands can be purchased from the Music School. Enrolments Click on Instrumental Classes and then the instrument required to download the enrolment form. Glenbrook Railway Station Playout
The music school concert band had a marvellous experience, although climatically challenged, on Sunday 5th December playout on the platform at Glenbrook. The passengers and bystanders were treated to the years repertoire of the band and created a memorable experience for all present. Thank you to all the staff at Glenbrook Railway and to all the parents and supporters who braved the weather and gave up their time. |
